RACE RULES and SAFETY – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Above all we want everyone to enjoy themselves and to stay safe. Please read and adhere to the following to help make that happen.
THE COURSE
The start of the race and the finish of the race is on a public road for a small section. These roads are open to traffic and you do NOT have priority. The marshals will do their best to make traffic aware that there are runners on the road, however normal rules of the road apply so PLEASE BE CAREFUL!
The majority of the race is on public footpaths and bridleways. Competitors DO NOT have priority over anyone else, so please be considerate of everyone else.
The course will be marshalled and well sign posted, however it is your responsibility to know where you are going. Please familiarise yourself with the route.
The course is mixed terrain and is undulating with a couple of small climbs. Most of the course is dry and is sound underfoot.
The course is accurately measured and marked out however due to discrepancies in GPS devices the organisers can not be held responsible for any small variances in the event distance on your devices. This is a fun run – you are not Kenenisa Bekele!
MARSHALS
Our marshals are all volunteers and go out of their way to make sure the run goes ahead as smooth as possible. Any inappropriate or aggressive behaviour towards the event staff or event marshals will not be tolerated and will be strictly dealt with.
DOGS
Running with dogs is not permitted. All dogs on and around the event area must be kept on a lead at all times due to the number of small children around. Dogs are NOT permitted in the school grounds.
HEADPHONES
We strongly advise that you do not wear any over ear or in ear headphones. You must be able to hear instructions from marshals and as you will be running on public roads and footpaths there are other users that you will need to be able to hear.
LITTERING
Please take all your litter home with you, or use a bin. Anyone seen deliberately littering will be excluded from the race and publicly shamed.
TOILETS
There are toilets available in the Cricketers pub, in the school grounds, and inside the school. Please DO NOT use the trees or bushes as a latrine, anyone seen doing so will be excluded from the race and publicly shamed.
RACE DAY DETAILS
Please read the below information regarding the race day:
RACE PACKS
We do not send anything out, please collect your race number on the day from the registration tent.
Registration opens at 8.15am and will close at 9.30 am before the 1k race starts. There will be tea / coffee and BBQ breakfast options available so arrive early!
CAR PARKING
Car parking in a small village is always a bit of a problem, so if you are able to get a lift, or get here by some means other than by vehicle, then please do so!
Car parks will not be manned until 8.15am, and you may not be able to access them until that time.
Please drive into the village and follow signs for the car park. It will be at the back of the farm opposite the school, by the cricket pavillion.

All day BBQ (from about 8.45am until we run out of food)
Tea/coffee from @Truckhiato

RACE ROUTES
Please familiarise yourself with the routes! There are marshals on the course at the key points, but you will be responsible for knowing where you are going.
https://www.quendonandricklingrunfest.co.uk/#routes
It is well well sign-posted, however we (as always!) struggle to get marshals for every junction so consequently you will need to follow the signs. It should be fairly dry at the moment, but there are a few hills to enjoy, as well as a couple of sections on the road so please be careful.
The 1k route is 2 laps of the green, starting under the race arch in the school grounds. Head out the gate, turn left, then follow it round, 2 laps and home.
The 5k route is as it has been before – out and back starting in the school grounds. Please be aware of the turn around point which is just after the first water station – if you miss this you are running the 10k!
The 10k route is the same new route as the last couple of years. It has less out-and-back, and a couple more hills, one of which is fairly tough so be ready and be careful! There is a small section on the road past Ricking Church, so please be aware of road users as we do not have priority.
Please also be aware that some of the footpaths we use are shared-use, so if you do come across a dog walker / dirt bike / horse rider / herd of wild animals, then you may have to give way – sorry!
WATER STATIONS
We will have water stations just before the 5k turnaround and the 10k turnarounds. Please ring your own cup / bottle if you can, the less waste we can produce the better. There may not be a cup available if you don’t bring your own, so if you know you will want water then please bring a bottle or a cup to run with!
FACILITIES
The Cricketers pub will be open from early and they have kindly said that we can use their toilets.
We will have a couple of portable toilets in the school grounds, and the use of the school toilets.
Please DO NOT use any of the surrounding trees and bushes as a latrine, anyone caught doing so will be excluded from the event.
There will be a bag storage tent at the registration, however this will not be manned 100% of the time so we can not accept any responsibility for belongings in this area.
We do have limited medical cover on site – there will be a first aid responder in the registration / finish area, and some of the on-course marshals have basic first aid training.
Please note that you run this event at your own risk, we can not be held responsible for any injuries sustained during the event.
CHIP TIMING / TROPHIES
All three events are chip timed, and we once again have bespoke medals designed by the school children for every competitor.
There are winners trophies for the top 3 in the 5k and 10k events for Men and Women. Prize giving will be from about 11.40am.
